Learn how it works, the security risks involved, and tips to prevent your WhatsApp from being hacked through WhatsApp Web.

WhatsApp, as one of the most popular communication apps in the world, has become an essential part of daily communication for over two billion users. In Indonesia, WhatsApp’s popularity is virtually unmatched. According to data from goodstats.id, Indonesia ranks among the top three countries with the highest number of WhatsApp users globally.

This is no coincidence—WhatsApp is considered a user-friendly messaging app that appeals to people of all ages. Its features also allow users to access messages through a computer. However, this convenience raises major concerns about the app’s security and the potential for unauthorized access. Therefore, this article will explore WhatsApp.Web spy methods, how they work, how to detect if your WhatsApp has been hacked, and how to prevent such intrusions via WhatsApp Web.

Can WhatsApp Be Hacked?

A commonly asked question among the public is: Can WhatsApp be hacked?
The answer is yes—WhatsApp can be hacked using certain methods, especially through the WhatsApp Web feature. WhatsApp Web is an official function that allows users to access their WhatsApp accounts via a desktop browser by scanning a QR code from the app on their smartphone.

Indeed, WhatsApp Web is one of the most commonly exploited vulnerabilities for spying, especially when account owners are not vigilant. This is because WhatsApp Web does not require additional verification beyond the QR code to gain immediate access to the chat application.

As a result, anyone could borrow or take your phone, scan the QR code, open web.whatsapp.com, and instantly access all your chat conversations through a browser. Once WhatsApp Web is activated, the session remains logged in unless manually logged out. This means that even if the computer is shut down or connected to a different network, users often don’t realize that their WhatsApp is still active on another device.

That said, spying is not an easy task without direct access, and users must understand the associated risks and common tactics used.

How is WhatsApp Hacked?

Below are some common WhatsApp hacking techniques via WhatsApp Web:

1. Through WhatsApp Web

The term WhatsApp.Web Spy via QR Code login refers to the spying technique that uses the WhatsApp Web QR code as the initial access point. This unique QR code can only be scanned once and will link the mobile WhatsApp account to a computer browser.

This method requires physical access to the target phone, allowing someone to scan the QR code without logging out afterward.

This is one of the easiest ways for anyone to spy on someone else’s chats. It allows the hacker to view both incoming and outgoing messages in real time.

See Also: What is Computer Vision?

2. Using Spy Apps / Spyware

Be careful when lending personal items like your phone. If you’re not careful, someone could install spyware like mSpy or FlexiSpy on your device without your knowledge.

mSpy and FlexiSpy are examples of spyware applications specifically designed to secretly monitor mobile activity.

To install these apps, the hacker must have access to your phone for at least 5–10 minutes. They would then install the spyware on the target device. Rooting (for Android) or jailbreaking (for iPhones) may be required to enable full WhatsApp monitoring. These apps allow hackers to:

1. Read WhatsApp messages, SMS, and emails
2. Track GPS location
3. Access call history
4. Monitor social media activity (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.)
5. View files and photos in the gallery

3. SIM Card Cloning

Through a SIM swap fraud technique, attackers can gain control over your phone number. If they manage to verify your WhatsApp account on their device, they can access all your messages.

Tips to Prevent WhatsApp Web Spying

To secure your WhatsApp account from being hacked through WhatsApp Web, follow these tips:

Always log out of WhatsApp Web after using it on any browser.

Regularly check connected devices via Linked Devices in the WhatsApp mobile app.

Go to: WhatsApp App > Settings > Linked Devices > Log out from unknown devices

Never give others access to your phone without supervision.

Review and uninstall unknown apps in settings, and use antivirus software to detect spyware like FlexiSpy or mSpy.

Use reliable antivirus tools or perform a factory reset if necessary.

Avoid scanning QR codes on unknown or untrusted devices.

Enable additional security features such as two-step verification, Face ID, or password on your WhatsApp app.

Be cautious of phishing messages that ask you to scan QR codes or click suspicious links.

See Also: What is Natural Language Processing (NLP)?

Conclusion

WhatsApp.Web Spy is a term that has gained popularity in Indonesia, referring to techniques for hacking WhatsApp accounts using the WhatsApp Web feature and QR code login. Although this method is relatively simple, it cannot be executed arbitrarily without physical access to the target device.

As digital technology continues to evolve—especially with the rise of concepts like the metaverse—the risks to privacy and communication security grow more complex. That’s why user awareness and vigilance are key to preventing hacking attempts, especially when it comes to WhatsApp, which is widely used for private and personal communication.

Protecting your account with a strong password, logging out of WhatsApp Web after use, and never sharing your QR code with anyone are essential steps that every WhatsApp user must take.

Referensi

Prasastisiwi, A.
