These 3 Usability Testing Methods Before Creating a Product

The usability testing method must be done when you want to design a product that will successfully attract the attention of consumers.

When designing a product, the usability testing method is a stage that should not be missed. What are the methods used? Here’s the full explanation.

Explanation of 3 Types of Usability Testing Methods

Overall, there are 3 kinds of usability testing methods. They are moderated and unmoderated, remote and in person, as well as expolative, assessment, and comparative. All of them will be described below.

Moderated and Unmoderated

The moderated testing method is a trial given directly or remotely by a researcher.  by expert researchers. They will explain about testing, answer questions, and follow up.

The moderated testing method is a trial given directly or remotely by a researcher.  by expert researchers. They will explain about testing, answer questions, and follow up.

While the unmoderated testing method is carried out without any supervision from expert researchers. Participants who use this one method can run it from home, using mobile phones to open the site being tested.

In the process, moderated testing can provide more specific answers, but implementation is quite expensive. This is because they have to bring in research experts, provide places, and so on.

Unmoderated testing is cheaper, but the questions given must be more specific because it will be difficult to give the next question.

Remote dan in person

The remote testing method is done remotely, whether it’s from the internet or phone. While in person requires participants to be in one place.

If you want to get a lot of results but not deep. Then you can use remote testing.

Meanwhile, if you want to get really in-depth data, you can use the in-person method.

Explorative test, assessment research, and comparative research

The last three methods are exploratory test methods, research research, and comparative research.

In exploratory tests, participants usually brainstorm and give their opinions freely in the form of opinions.

The information will be collected as the first stage in product development. Then, researchers will gather new ideas and see the gaps in the market.

While the assessment research is given to examine the assessment of participants, their satisfaction, and whether participants can use the product easily.

Comparative research is a method that requires participants to choose between one product. Then compare it with competitors’ websites.

Those are 3 usability testing methods that must be known before making a product that will be circulated on the market. With this method, you can find out what products are needed by consumers.
