The Four Most Important Types of Flowchart Symbols

Four Types of Flowchart Symbols. There are many types of flowchart symbols that are often used in industrial production processes. A flowchart itself is a diagram that is used to represent the sequence or flow of a process. So these activities are presented in the form of symbols or geometric shapes that have certain meanings or significance.

Flowcharts are often used to simplify understanding of processes and make it easier for people to understand the flow of activities or work.

Distribution of Flowchart Symbols Below

There are four types of flowchart symbols that are commonly used, namely input/output, process, storage and flow flowcharts. The following is a detailed explanation.

Input/Output Flowchart

This symbol is used to represent interaction between the system and the user in the form of data input and output.

The character used in an input/output flowchart is a Parallelogram. This represents the input and output of data in a system or activity. Input/output flowcharts are used to create system interaction diagrams with users in information systems or applications.

Process Flowchart

This type of process flowchart symbol is used to represent the sequence or flow of activities or work. The shapes of the symbols in it represent a certain action or activity.

The symbol used in process flowcharts is Rectangle. Rectangle symbolizes an action or activity in a system or activity. Process flowcharts are often used in modeling or planning a process or activity in an organization or business.

Storage Flowchart

Usually it is used to represent a place or data storage medium in a system or activity.

The symbol used in storage flowcharts is Trapezium. This shape symbolizes a place or data storage medium in a system or activity.  Storage flowcharts are found in modeling or planning an information system or application.

Flow Chart

Interrelationships or flows within a system or activity use flowchart symbols . The symbol used in flow flowcharts is Circle.

The circle symbolizes a relationship or flow between symbols in a system or activity. Flow flowcharts are often used to create flow diagrams for processes.

Overall, these four flowchart symbols are often used in modeling or planning a process.

Using the right type of flowchart will really help to facilitate understanding and analysis in the industry.
