Nosql: The Most Popular Database Management System Today

Many large companies like Amazon have switched to using flexible NoSQL databases that align with technological advancements.

Managing databases in work settings can now utilize NoSQL, which is more flexible, in addition to relational database management systems (RDBMS). Many large companies are starting to adopt NoSQL because they find it more suitable for advancing technology and data development.

Understanding NoSQL

The term NoSQL stands for Not Only SQL, which refers to a non-relational database management system. By utilizing NoSQL, databases can be managed through simpler schemas and do not require complex and flexible queries. Based on this approach, the database management system has high scalability to accommodate data needs. That’s why this database management system is considered the most recommended for processing ever-changing big data. Many large companies choose to use this database management system for their businesses. This is because it has the ability to support real-time web applications being developed. In addition to Amazon, Google and Facebook are also known to use this database management system to support their operations.

Types of NoSQL Databases

This database management system functions well due to the availability of various types of databases that can be used according to needs.

In general, this database management system is divided into four types:

  1. Key-value : This type of database stores data in simple key-value pairs in a hash table format.
  2. Column-based: Also known as wide-column, this type of database stores data in column format. Column-based databases are highly recommended for queries involving operations like SUM, COUNT, AVG, MIN, and others.
  3. Document-oriented: This type of database uses data in the form of key-value pairs and stores it in documents using JSON or XML formats. The values in this database can be strings, numbers, booleans, arrays, and objects.
  4. Graph-based: Graph-based databases focus on storing relationships between entities in the form of nodes.

These are brief explanations of NoSQL, the most capable database management system preferred by many large companies.
