Find a brief overview of Unix OS only here

Have you ever heard of the Unix operating system? What exactly is meant by the Unix operating system and what are its distinctive features?

There are many operating systems used in modern computer performance, one of which is Unix. But what is Unix really and how does this operating system function? Before discussing what Unix is, we need to first understand what an Operating System (OS) is. An OS is a working system that integrates a number of software programs with hardware into one integrated system. The OS will provide the foundation for various software to work on a computer device, as the role of the OS is as the basic program for that computer device.

The OS acts as a connector for software to function and work properly on the computer device in question. There is a strong synergy between the OS and hardware to maximize the work of the software. There are many OSs available in the market. One of the popular ones is Windows. However, there is also an OS that is quite old and still widely used to this day, namely Unix.

Getting to Know Unix OS Better

Unix is the oldest OS that even its pilot form was already operating in 1965. Initially, it was used for time-sharing systems to serve multi-users at the same time. At that time, the multi-user computer performance was not known yet. So, this Unix breakthrough became a generic OS that was much anticipated. Although its development was briefly halted in the early 1970s, Unix was successfully developed further until now. In its development, Unix allows direct communication with computers via a terminal. Not only does it work as a multi-user, but also multitasking, so it can work on several tasks simultaneously.

This makes the usage process more interactive while also providing direct control for users to utilize computer resources. Unix also allows users to share data and programs with each other. This is thanks to the UNIX operating system that works as multi-user and multitasking. Another advantage of Unix is its performance as a portable OS. This makes it a highly adaptable OS and very easy to relocate from one device to another effectively and easily. Unix also has the ability to provide utilities that make it possible to customize programs to meet every user’s need or desire.

Although its usage is not as extensive as Windows, Unix OS is also quite widely used. There are several examples of OSs that adopt Unix system that we can mention here, such as A/UX and DOMAIN/X.
